Questions about BDI (4)
Questions about this community.
This site has several features to help you connect with the community.
First, there's your user profile. When you first sign up, you only have to answer a couple of questions. Once you're a member, it's up to you to fill out your full profile, so folks can get to know you.
Second, there's the discussion forums. Once you're a member, you can post responses and new topics in the forums, so you can talk to the other members of the community.
Third, there's the events calendar. You and other members can post your dance events, and once approved, they will be displayed to all users of the site. This is a great way to find places in the real world to go to dance, learn, compete, or even just meet the real people who make up this community.
Finally, watch the front page of the site for news and commentary about dance and the dance community.
It's simple. Anything goes, but with the request that you:
- Keep it civilized (no attacking other members).
- Keep it clean (try to be family friendly).
- Keep it on-topic (don't side-track others' conversations).
- Keep it relatively non-commercial (No hawking. You can advertise with us for a fee. Events are a different story - We welcome both commercial and non-profit entries.).
Everyone!
No matter if you're a pro or an amateur; a ballroom, swing, tango, or country dancer; a promoter/organizer; or just casually interested, we want your input and support. We especially want the collegiate competition crowd to use our services, to make a single central clearinghouse for competition dates and info.
BDI grew out of an attempt to help college ballroom teams schedule their competitions, by organizing all their info in one place to prevent conflicts. We still serve that purpose, but now our calendar contains not just collegiate competitions, but also commercial and professional competitions and workshops all over North America. We also now have info on all kinds of couples dancing (swing, west-coast, tango, salsa, etc.).
On top of just a calendar, we have built a community, where dancers can discuss topics with one another and share websites for dance resources.
What are we for? To connect you, our members, and make your dancing experience a better one.

Hints on how to use this site.
If you've searched through this FAQ section, and still can't find your answer, you can go to our contact page and ask us a question!
In the menu at the left of all site pages, you will see an option to "Create new account". Click on that link and follow the instructions.
Or, you can just click here.
Yes you can. We don't advise it, but it is possible. Keep in mind that if you do, people who want to access your profile page by typing in the address will still have to use your original username.
That said, if you would still like to change your username, please follow the steps below:
- Go to "My Account"
- Click the "Edit" tab
- Change your username in the "Username" field to the desired name.
- Submit the changes.
Note that the new username will not take affect if that username has already been taken by another user.
- To ensure that the username has been changed, click on the "Edit" tab again.
- Check to ensure that your new username is listed in the "Username" field.
- If the new username is not listed in the "Username" field, that username is already taken and you must either keep your old username or choose a different one.
Remember to repeat the double check any time you choose a new username.
No. You will have to contact us to do it for you.
After you have typed in your post body, look at the list of links at the bottom of the page. You will see one called "File attachments". Click it.
The section that opens up will instruct you on how to select and attach your file. Please, we beg you, no giant files!
There are two choices, both of which require some simple html code.
- 1) Use an image already hosted on another site:
- Look at the links at the bottom of the submission form, and click on"Input Filters". Then Select "Full HTML". Now, at the point in your post where you want to embed the image, type in "", where "xxxx" is the URL of your image.
- 2) Host your image here:
- First attach your image to your post, and submit the post *without* the image in it. Then edit your post, and follow directions in choice 1, but use the URL listed for the attached image in place of the "xxxx" instead.
If you can't find the answer you are looking for in this FAQ section, you can post a question in the 'Tech Support and Requests' discussion forum. If you cannot post, or are not a member, click the 'Contact' link at the top right of any page (or go directly to our contact page), and you will be able to send us a message.
Go to the 'My account' link in the left column menu. Select the 'Edit' option at the top of the page. Click on 'Account', and look for the third and fourth fields down. These let you change your password.
