American Style
A group of ballroom dances competed in DanceSport, primarily within the United States. Comprised of the 'Smooth' and 'Rhythm' styles.
IDSF
The International DanceSport Federation.
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance
A private dance standards organization based in the UK. THe ISTD's standards are generally accepted worldwide and defining International style ballroom dance.
International DanceSport Federation
One of the two major international governing bodies for DanceSport. Parent organization of USA Dance and most national governing bodies.
International Style
A group of ballroom dances competed in DanceSport as defined by the ISTD and IDSF. Comprised of the 'Standard' and 'Latin American' styles.
ISTD
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.
Line of Dance
The line of dance for any traveling dance is defined by convention as a line running counter-clockwise around the perimeter of the dance space.
USABDA
The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association. This was formerly the name of USA Dance.
USA Dance
Governing body for Dancesport in the United States (formerly USABDA).
WDC
The World Dance Council.
World Dance Council
One of the two major international governing bodies for DanceSport.
