American Style: A group of ballroom dances competed in DanceSport, primarily within the United States. Comprised of the 'Smooth' and 'Rhythm' styles.
IDSF: The International DanceSport Federation.
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance: A private dance standards organization based in the UK. THe ISTD's standards are generally accepted worldwide and defining International style ballroom dance.
International DanceSport Federation: One of the two major international governing bodies for DanceSport. Parent organization of USA Dance and most national governing bodies.
International Style: A group of ballroom dances competed in DanceSport as defined by the ISTD and IDSF. Comprised of the 'Standard' and 'Latin American' styles.
ISTD: The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.
Line of Dance: The line of dance for any traveling dance is defined by convention as a line running counter-clockwise around the perimeter of the dance space.
USABDA: The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association. This was formerly the name of USA Dance.
USA Dance: Governing body for Dancesport in the United States (formerly USABDA).
WDC: The World Dance Council.
World Dance Council: One of the two major international governing bodies for DanceSport.
